Berhampur, Feb 8: A 19-year-old pregnant woman was
allegedly killed by her in-laws at Patitapabanpur village under Sadar police station late Saturday night.
The victim was identified as Malati Das. Police seized the body and detained the victim’s husband.
Police said they got information that Malati had committed suicide late Saturday night. However, after they reached the spot, they
suspected it to be a case of murder as indicated by
circumstantial evidence, the police added. The in-laws might have strangled the woman as there was a mark on her neck, police said.
Malati’s father Upendra Das lodged a complaint with the police alleging his daughter was killed by her in-laws though she was four months pregnant. He alleged Malati’s husband had been torturing her. On the basis of the complaint, police registered a murder case.
Malati of Chaulasukunda had married Basant Das February 12 last year.
