Bhubaneswar: India Skills Competition – Orissa 2018 was inaugurated at the Institute of Hotel Management auditorium here Wednesday.
Subroto Bagchi, chairman, Orissa Skill Development Authority, and Skill Development and Technical Education Department secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh inaugurated the competition.
Representatives of various industries, CII, PIA, principals of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), government officials and students of Institute of Hotel Management participated in the competition.
In his inaugural speech, director, Employment, and CEO of Skill Development Authority, Rajesh Patil welcomed the participants and laid stress on the role of skill development for the development of a country and building youths’ careers.
Colonel RN Kharbanda (Rtd), technical advisor, NSDC, briefed about the World Skill Competition and its utility in India. He informed the participants about the participation of the Indian team at the recently held World Skills Competition. He also explained about the selection of members from India Skills Competition for the World Skill Competition 2019 to be hosted in Kazan and Russia. Kharbanda screened a video of the Indian team that participated in the World Skill Competition 2017 held in Abu Dhabi.
Sibasis Maity, managing director, Central Tool Room and Training Centre, Bhubaneswar, spoke about his training and experience of participating in the World Skill Competition. Maity said that apart from selection of candidates, selection of their trainers is also an important part for the competition.
Speaking about importance of conducting such competition in the state, Skill Development and Technical Education Department secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh said Orissa is a hub of skill development. “Our state has nurtured many talented personalities who are now engaged in various fields across the country. India Skill Competition is a noble medium to create a special identity for the talented personalities of the state,” Singh said.
