Australia clinch 1st ODI
Sydney: Hosts Australia won the first of three-ODI series against India by a whopping 66 runs here, Friday. Skipper Aaron Finch and Steve Smith’s centuries in the first innings propelled the Aussies to 374/6 in 50 overs. In reply, Virat Kohli’s India could only manage to put 308/8 in 50 overs thanks to an under-pressure 90 (76 balls) from all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
India lose Dhawan, Pandya in quick succession to fade away
Sydney: India were on the verge of losing the first ODI against Australia here Friday losing Shikhar Dhawan (74, 86b, 10×4) and Hardik Pandya (90, 76b, 7×4, 4×6) between the 35 and the 40th over. Both wickets were claimed by leg-spinner Adam Zampa as he broke the fifth wicket partnership of 128 runs between Dhawan and Pandya. At the end of the 40th over India were 250 for six and more or less out of the game.
Pandya, Dhawan keep India’s hopes alive
Sydney: Shikhar Dhawan (52 batting) and Hardik Pandya (54 batting) hit half centuries as India continued to fight doggedly against Australia after losing four quick wickets. Chasing a victory target of 375 in the first ODI here, India had slipped to 101 for four before Dhawan and Pandya engineered the fightback and took the visitors to 180 without any further loss after the end of 25 overs. The two have so far put on an unbroken stand of 79 runs for the fifth wicket. Hazlewood was the chief destroyer with three wickets while leg-spinner Adam Zampa got the scalp of KL Rahul (12).
Dhawan, Pandya steady ship
Sydney: All-rounder Hardik Pandya’s 31 off 21 balls and opener Shikhar Dhawan’s 41 from 45 balls helped India put 144/4 on board at the end of 20 overs against Australia in the first ODI here. After India’s top order collapse that saw skipper Virat Kohli, Mayank Agarwal, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul depart for paltry sums, all hopes are pinned on Dhawan and Pandya to steer India to victory.
India’s troubles continue
Sydney: Chasing a mammoth target of 375, India’s top order collapsed in quick succession in the first ODI against Australia here. At the end of 15 overs, Virat Kohli’s men put 106 for four on board. Opener Shikhar Dhawan remains on the crease with 33 from as many balls and is partnered by all-rounder Hardik Pandya who scored one from three balls.
India lose Agarwal, Kohli, Iyer in quick succession
Sydney: India’s hopes of chasing down a mammoth winning target of 375 runs were jolted by Josh Hazlewood. The pacer who went for runs in his first two overs, came back strongly to dismiss Mayank Agarwal (22), Virat Kohli (21) and Shreyas Iyer (2) as India slumped to 80 for three in 10 overs. It means that India in five overs have lost three key batsmen for the addition of 27 runs. It looks the game is as good as over for India with not much batting to come.
India off to a flier
Sydney: India chasing a winning target of 375 runs were off to a flier scoring 53 without loss after the completion of five overs while batting second at the SCG here Friday. Mayank Agarwal (22 batting) and Shikhar Dhawan (20 batting) gave India the start they were looking for as the 50 of the innings came in just 4.1 overs. Dhawan and Agarwal have so far put the opposition bowlers to sword. However, they have to keep the momentum going. Agarwal has already hit a brilliant six over extra-cover off Josh Hazlewood while Dhawan has been milking the bowling with ease. Mitchell Starc who opened the bowling for Australia went for 20 runs in his first over. Dhawan has so far hit four boundaries while Agarwal two other than the six he hit.

Australia post mammoth 374 for six in 50 overs
Sydney: Steve Smith (105, 66b, 11×4, 4×6) continued his terrific form against India with his 10th ODI century to propel Australia to 374 for six wickets here Friday. It was indeed a brilliant knock as Smith took on all the Indian bowlers and hit them to different parts of the SCG. Mohammed Shami (3/59) picked up three wickets for India. The other three were shared by Jasprit Bumrah (1/73), Navdeep Saini (1/83) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/89).

Maxwell goes berserk
Sydney: Glenn Maxwell (45, 19b, 5×4, 3×6) went berserk after the fall of Marcus Stoinis (0) cheaply as the Australians rocketed towards the 350-run in the first ODI against India here Friday. Giving him company was Steve Smith (81 batting). At the end of the 45th over, Australia have scored 330 for the of four wickets and they are on course to put a 375-plus runs target for the visitors. Yuzvendra Chahal got the wicket of Stoinis, but this is a game he would like to forget going for 89 runs in his 10 overs. In all Ravindra Jadeja (0/63) and Chahal gave away 152 runs in their 20 overs. Maxwell was finally dismissed by the most impressive among the Indian bowlers, Mohammed Shami.
Finch falls after century

Sydney: Australian skipper Aaron Finch (114) got to his 17th ODI hundred before being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah as his side went past the 250-run mark. At the end of the 40th over, Australia were 264 for two with Steve Smith (63 batting) from just 42 balls. The former Australian skipper has already hit nine boundaries and a six. The hosts are well on course for a 350-plus total against India.
Australia go past 200
Sydney: Australia were 208 for one at the end of the 35th over with Aaron Finch (96 batting) and Steve Smith (27 batting) in the first ODI against India here Friday.
Finch progresses towards century
Sydney: Australia progressed to 167 for one after the end of the 30th over in the ODI against India here Friday at the SCG. Aaron Finch (81 batting) was serenely progressing towards his century. Giving him company was former skipper Steve Smith (four batting)
Shami dismisses Warner
Sydney: India finally achieved their much-needed breakthrough with Mohammed Shami dismissing David Warner. The left-hander was caught behind by KL Rahul and Australia lost their first wicket with the score on 157 after 28 overs. Warner (69 off 76 balls) hit six boundaries. Initially the batsman was given not out but Virat Kohli won the verdict in India’s favour with a successful review.
Finch, Warner hit half centuries as Australia dominate
Sydney: Both Aaron Finch (62 batting) and David Warner (60 batting) hit half centuries as the Australian openers piled on the misery for the Indian bowlers in the first ODI here Friday. At the end of the 26th over, Australia were 138 without loss and looked like taking firm control of the game. Unless the bowlers come up with something magical, India will have to chase a target of well over 300. Both Warner and Finch have upped the ante and are currently commanding the Indian bowlers.

Aussies in control
Sydney: Batting first, Australia put 103 runs without any loss on board at the end of 20 overs in the first ODI against India here, Friday. Australia skipper Aaron Finch (53 batting) scored a half century while partner David Warner (41 batting) looks to be heading towards his 50 as well.
Finch, Warner dominate show
Sydney: Australia progressed to 76 without loss in the first ODI against India here Friday. Aaron Finch (38 batting) and David Warner (34 batting) have batted without any problems to propel their team forward to a dominating total. India have so far used five bowlers without any success
Australian openers take control
Sydney: Aaron Finch 929 (batting) took the role of an aggressor as Australia continued to make smooth progress against India in the first ODI here Friday. At the end of the 10th over, Australia were 51 without loss. David Warner (20 batting) was content to play the second fiddle as Finch went for some quick runs. Australia have got a solid batting line-up with a number of big-hitters lower down the order. If India are to make an impact, their bowlers will have to take some quick wickets. Finch so far has hit four boundaries while Warner two.

Aussies off to sedate start
Sydney: Openers David Warner and Aaron Finch gave Australia a sedate start after the hosts decided to bat on winning the toss. At the end of five overs Australia were 27 without loss. Warner (12 batting) and Finch (13 batting) have so far hit one boundary each. Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah opened the bowling for the visitors. Both have looked impressive in the first few overs they have bowled.
Australia win the toss, decide to bat
Sydney: Australia have won the toss and have decided to bat in the first game of the three match ODI series here Friday. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, India’s opening pair will have Mayank Agarwal partnering Shikhar Dhawan. In spite of an injury scare, India have kept Navdeep Saini in the playing XI. Skipper Virat Kohli said it feels good to be playing bilateral series once again
