Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, a four-month-old tribal baby was left battling for life after being bitten by stray dogs in Bamebari of Keonjhar district Thursday. As anti-rabies vaccines were not available at the district headquarters hospital, the boy was rushed in a critical condition to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The boy’s mother Raibani Munda, who hails from a very poor background, was allegedly provided no financial help by the Red Cross and was accompanied by ASHA worker Rekha Mohant. Munda hailing from Bamebari ekes out her living by selling firewood. She would put her son down along the roadside and go into the forest to collect firewood. Wednesday, on returning from the forest, she was shocked to find the baby with grievous wounds all over his body. The baby was rushed to Jhumpura CHC but rabies vaccine was not available there.
The infant was shifted to Cuttack in an ambulance along with his mother. The poor woman reportedly did not have a single penny on her when she went to SCB.
ADMO of the district headquarters hospital, Dr Binod Bihari Mishra, said, “The baby was admitted to the DHH Wednesday night. Anti-rabies vaccines were not available here and so the baby was shifted to SCB.” PNN
