Bhubaneswar, May 29: Third seed Chinmay Pradhan of Orissa lost to top seed Vijay Kannan of Tamil Nadu 2-6, 0-6 in the men’s singles final to emerge runner-up in the All India National Men’s Ranking tennis championship at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Friday.
Chinmay was no match for his opponent. The Tamil Nadu player was a notch above his adversary and hit winners at will. He also served well and many times created an opportunity with a well-placed serve. Kannan never lost his serve during the entire match, but broke Chinmay’s serve five times.
Kannan got 25 All India Ranking points along with cash prize of `19,500. Chinmay grabbed 20 points and took home a cash prize of `13,500.
“Chinmay tried hard, but he came up against a much superior opponent on the day,” stated his coach Santosh Mallick. “Hopefully he will learn from his experiences and play better in future.”
