Bhubaneswar: The Inter-State co-ordination meeting on security related issues began at the office of the Director General of Police here, Friday. Top police officials from the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Telengana and Andhra Pradesh are attending the meet. Senior BSF and Central Armed Forces officials were also present at the meeting.
The meeting assumes importance keeping in mind the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the Assembly polls in Odisha. Talking to reporters after the meeting Odisha DGP RP Sharma said that the main aim of the meeting is to facilitate better coordination of work with the forces of the neighbouring states (see video). He also stated that the states will work together to tackle the Left-wing extremists in a coordinated manner and also prevent the illegal flow of cash which happens during the polls. Sharma also stated that the meeting was conducted as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha Asit Tripathy also emphasised on the need for coordination among the states attending the meeting. He said that this will go a long way in tackling the menace created by the Red Rebels and thwart their plans of disrupting the electoral process. Presence of Maoists in the six states is well established fact and they can turn into a headache for the administration.
