The rumours of director Imtiaz Ali working on a possible sequel of his blockbuster movie Jab We Met (2007) are making quite a buzz among the fans. A number of media reports even went on to claim that there is no confirmation on the casting of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the possible sequel. In a chat session on X earlier this year, Shahid Kapoor said that Imtiaz and he may soon collaborate on a film, which made fans guessing. It may be mentioned here that many of them have begun guessing if the director-actor duo would be collaborating for ‘Jab We Met 2’, which could bring them together after 16 long years.
Speaking on his next venture ‘Chamkila’, staring actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, the Love Aaj Kal famed Director said in an event, “Working on a story like Chamkila helped me reconnect with a different side of myself and in the process, I felt very invigorated and rejuvenated. I truly can’t wait for everyone to watch it.” Chamkila is based on the life story of iconic musician Amar Singh Chamkila from Punjab. Chamkila rose to fame during the 1980s but was assassinated when he was just 27. Diljit will be playing the lead role of Amar Singh Chamkila, while Parineeti Chopra will be playing the part of his wife, Amarjot.
The Rockstar (2011) and Tamasha (2015) director explained he is currently busy filming Chamkila, which will be an AR Rahman musical. Spilling the update on his next directorial Ali said, “It’s coming pretty soon. I hope the audience likes it when they see it. Shooting for Chamkila felt like a very different experience as a filmmaker. It involved a lot of unlearning, which is why I felt very fresh while making it and I’m sure that the audience will also witness that once they watch it.”
When asked about the sequel of Jab We Met, the director said, “No, it’s not happening.” Ali further added, “I don’t have a story for Jab We Met 2 yet. I’ve heard of these and read these reports and articles. Nobody asked me before publishing them, so I don’t know what to say. But let’s see what happens.”
