Patnagarh: Patnagarh sub-jail officials were in for embarrassment when the six accused who were arrested for allegedly attempting to escape from the jail along with parcel bomb blast mastermind Punjilal Meher termed the charges as false while testifying in the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court here Tuesday.
All the six prisoners denied the jail break charges while recording their statements before the SDJM.
The six who are under-trials at the Patnagarh sub-jail in a robbery case said the charges were completely false. They said that neither they nor the parcel bomb blast mastermind Punjilal had tried to escape January 24.
They said the jail authorities were threatening them, and that they were being beaten up brutally inside the jail which often led to bleeding. They said their appeal to take them to hospital was turned down by the jail authorities.
The prisoners said they have filed a written complaint with the Patnagarh sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) and had apprised the Senior Jail Superintendent about their ordeal. They claimed that the truth could be ascertained by ordering a probe and by checking the CCTV footage in the jail.
Patnagarh police station IIC Barini Das said cases have been registered against the six prisoners over a complaint lodged by the jail authorities.
The complaints lodged by the six will be dealt with as per rules as the complainants are under-trial prisoners, the IIC said.
