Veteran actress Jaya Prada turned 57 Wednesday. She was born April 3, 1962 in Andhra Pradesh. Jaya Prada has acted in more than 200 films both in Southern languages and the mainstream Hindi Industry. Her career spanned from 1974 till 2012.
Jaya Prada’s original name is Lalita Rani. Her acting carrier started with the Telugu film ‘Bhoomi Kosam’ in 1974. It should be stated here that her father Krishna Rao was a financier for Telugu films. She only earned Rs 10 from the movie
In real life, Jaya Prada married producer Shrikant Nahata, June 22, 1986. Her marriage raised many eyebrows because Shrikant married Jaya Prada without divorcing his first wife. In spite of getting married for the second time, Shrikant never separated from his first wife.
Jaya Prada faced a number of controversies during her acting career, but she weathered the storms. Once she slapped co-actor Dalip Tahil who had hugged her tightly during a scene. Among her hit Hindi films were ‘Sharaabi’ (1984), Aakhree Raasta (1986) where she was paired opposite the legendary Amitabh Bachchan.
Jaya Prada has recently joined the BJP in March. She had earlier been associated with the Samajwadi Party, the Telegu Desam and the National Lok Dal. She has twice been an MP (2004, 2009) getting elected as a SP candidate from the Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
