Bhubaneswar: Odisha bowlers gave away a brilliant start as half centuries from Jayant Yadav (67) and Sumit Kumar (64 n o) helped Haryana to script a memorable four-wicket win in their Vijay Hazare group B encounter in Vadodara Friday.
Chasing a target of 208 runs, Rajesh Mohanty (2/37) and Deepak Behera (2/31) wrecked havoc to reduce Haryana 78/5 before Yadav and Kumar stitched together a 126-run partnership to pave the way for victory. Haryana won the game with 2.1 overs to spare.
Earlier, Odisha didn’t have the best of the starts as they lost their opener Swastik Samal (12) and skipper Subhranshu Senapati (3) with 28 runs on board. Govind Poddar (64) and Sandeep Pattnaik (44) then steadied the ship with a 80-run third wicket partnership.
However, the dismissal of former skipper Govind triggered the collapse as none of the batsmen could really stand in front of Kumar (3/13) and Harshal Patel (3/56). Sujit Lenka (34) provided a late fight.
In the other matches of the day, India pacer Navdeep Saini claimed three wickets as Delhi defeated Baroda by 10-runs in a rain-curtailed match.
Put in to bat, Delhi were bundled out for 148 in 37.4 overs with Nitish Rana top-scoring with a 42-ball 27. Anuj Rawat and Manan Sharma chipped in with 21 and 18 runs respectively. Senior batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who is returning to the Delhi side, was the first to depart for 7.
For Baroda, captain Krunal Pandya starred with the ball returning with the figures of figures 4/34, while Atit Sheth scalped two wickets, including that of Dhawan, giving away 41 runs. Chasing a revised target of 139, Baroda were folded for 128 in 33.2 overs, thanks to a disciplined effort by the Delhi bowlers.
Apart from Saini, left-arm pacer Kulwant Khejroliya and spinner Pawan Negi took two wickets each.
