Puri: Vigilance sleuths here Thursday arrested Satyabadi block rural water supply and sanitation junior engineer (JE) Sanjay Sahu on charges of bribery.
The sleuths of the anti-corruption wing of the state police said they have arrested Sahu while he was receiving Rs 6,100 from complainant Suraj Kumar Tripathy, chairperson of a non-profitable organisation in Gop, on the pretext of clearing a bill for construction of toilets in Satyabadi block.
“We have recovered chemical-laced Rs 6,100 and a few vital documents from his official chamber here. A case (22/2018) has been registered against Sahu with the vigilance cell here,” they said, adding the accused has been sent to the vigilance cell in Bhubaneswar for further investigation.
According to the complaint, Samadhan Samiti, a Gop-based non-profitable organisation, had bagged the work order for construction of toilets in Balarampurgarh panchayat under Satyabadi block here. Tripathy had approached the JE for passing the bills for construction of 12 toilets. However, the accused demanded bribe for processing the bills. Tripathy approached the vigilance sleuths who laid a trap and caught Sahu red-handed Thursday.
