Jharkhand enter semifinals

Cuttack, May 19: Riding on a fifer from Sharda Kumari, Jharkhand blew away Maharastra 8-1 in a quarterfinal league match of their group to progress to the semifinals of the National Sub-Junior Girls’ Championship at the Barabati Stadium here Tuesday.
Jharkhand dominated right from the word go and Sharda opened the floodgates in the sixth minute. She then added to her tally in the 52nd, 55th, 74th and 75th minutes, while Urmila Kumari scored two (27th and 82nd) and Laxmi Kumari got one goal. N Shemchulin pulled one goal back for Maharashtra.
In another keenly-contested match of the same group, Haryana, who have already qualified for the semis, edged out Manipur by a solitary goal. Ravina scored as early as the fourth minute for Haryana and though there was a series of opportunities at both ends for the two teams, neither of them were able to take their chances and the scoreline remained the same till the final whistle.

 
Gangpur thrash TN
Hockey Gangpur pummeled Tamil Nadu 17-0, thanks to five goals from Nahas Barwa and a hat-trick by Mandip Kerketta in a Group-C match of the National Sub-Junior Boys’ (Division-A) Hockey Championship in New Delhi, Tuesday. Prakash Dhir, Albert Tete and Sudeep Chirmato scored twice each while Rahul Ekka, Shakti Kujur and Abhijeet Swain scored on apiece to complete the rout for Gangpur.
