Sambalpur: In a shocking incident, a Plus III girl sustained serious injuries after she was attacked by her jilted lover with a blade at her college in Kuchinda area of Sambalpur district Friday.
The victim, a student of Plus III first year of GPR College at Kuntara, was admitted to a community health centre where her condition is stated to be critical.
According to reports, the accused entered the college, identified himself as a relative of the victim and sought a meeting with her.
On being informed by the college peon, the girl, who was attending a class at that time, came out of the classroom to meet him. The duo had an altercation over some issue.
In a fit of rage, the youth, took out a blade, attacked her and fled the spot.
Hearing her screams, other students and staff of the college rushed to the spot. The girl sustained critical injuries on her neck.
Locals believed the two had an affair and the attack could be the fallout of a misunderstanding.
A complaint was lodged with Kushumi police outpost, following which the youth was detained for interrogation.
