Binjharpur: In a horrific incident, a jilted lover reportedly slit the throat of a minor girl and tried to stab her to death after she spurned his advances Saturday. The incident was reported from Guhali village under Binjharpur police limits in Jajpur district. The accused was identified as Gourav Roy (21).
Sources said the incident occurred early morning while the girl was on her way to attend tuition. Meanwhile, Roy intercepted the girl and misbehaved with her. When the girl spurned his advances and tried to walk away, he took a sharp-edged weapon and slit her throat. Then, he stabbed the girl and fled after she cried in pain before passers-by assembled on the spot. Locals rescued the girl who was profusely bleeding and admitted her to Binjharpur community health centre (CHC). After primary treatment, she was shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital, it was learnt.
A case was registered based on a complaint from the girl’s mother and an investigation was launched.
Locals said Roy has been following the girl since the last two months and tried to propose her several times. However, the girl rejected his proposals and warned him to mend his ways. When he continued to harass the girl, a village meeting was called and the village committee imposed a penalty on Roy.
Meanwhile, Roy confessed that he took the extreme step in an act of revenge. He was produced in the court and was remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea. PNN
