post news network, Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: The state government Wednesday appointed Justice Madan Mohan Das as head of the Commission of Inquiry probing the multi-crore ponzi scam in the state. Das fills the post held by Justice Radha Krushna Patra, who died January 28.
A retired judge of Orissa high court, Justice Das is son of renowned HC lawyer Madhabananda Das. Das, 62, graduated in Chemistry from Ravenshaw College, completed his MA in Public Administration from Utkal University and pursued LLB from MS Law College, Cuttack.
The sudden demise of Justice Patra had left thousands of duped investors in dismay. After the multi-crore scam came to light, the state government, in 2013, announced the creation of a corpus fund of Rs 300crore to help genuine investors and constituted the one-man ‘commission of inquiry’ with Justice Patra at its head.
The commission has, so far, received nearly 10lakh affidavits and prepared a database of six lakh affidavits. The OCAC has started digitisation of the database, for which 36,000 pages have been scanned.
