Thuamul Rampur: A tragic case from Ranpur village under Gunupur panchayat in Thuamul Rampur block of Kalahandi district highlights how negligence can devastate a poor family.
Neka Majhi (34), sole breadwinner of his family, has been bedridden for a long time after suffering a fractured hip from a fall into a pit allegedly dug by a Jio company. Due to lack of money, he is unable to get proper treatment, pushing his family into deep distress.
According to reports, after media coverage a few days ago, the company filled up pits using a JCB machine. However, it has turned a blind eye to Neka’s condition. While returning from work, he fell into a deep pit, sustaining severe fractures to his hip and thigh. Although he was referred from the district headquarters hospital to Burla Medical College, financial constraints have become a major hurdle. His elderly parents are unable to bear the cost of treatment.
Despite lodging a complaint during the district administration’s public grievance hearing, no action has been taken so far. Local representatives, including the samiti member, sarpanch, zilla parishad member and block chairman, have not raised the issue, villagers said.
Villagers have demanded immediate intervention by the district administration or ruling party leadership to ensure proper medical treatment for Neka and adequate compensation from the company. They warned that protests may intensify if action is not taken soon.
