Jajpur: Even as people are yet to come to terms with Kandhamal residential school shame, another minor girl delivered a baby in this district Friday. The heinous incident was reported from Danagadi area under Kalinga Nagar police limits in Jajpur district.
The 14-year-old, who was admitted to Danagadi community health centre (CHC) after she experienced labour pain,
delivered a girl Thursday evening, reports said.
According to sources, the victim was engaged to fetch drinking water for Pintu Jena, a contractor with railways. Jena used to pay her Rs 1,000 per month.
Meanwhile, he lured the girl into a relationship and raped her on the pretext of marrying her. He allegedly threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone.
However, after five months of pregnancy, the victim approached an ASHA worker and narrated her ordeal who later brought the incident to the notice of her family members. The family later lodged a complaint accusing Jena of impregnating the minor.
“I had lodged a complaint with police two months ago, but no action has been taken against the accused,” alleged the victim’s father.
“The girl along with her father was taken to Jajpur by the Kalinga Nagar police yesterday. She suffered from labour pain on the way. She was immediately rushed to Danagadi CHC where she delivered a baby. Both the victim and her baby have been shifted to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital,” said the ASHA worker.
