Karan Johar’s ‘Dostana 2’ runs into trouble with top actors refusing to play homosexual character

Mumbai: Karan Johar’s ‘Dostana 2’, has run into trouble as many top stars have refused to play the role of a hero with gay characteristics. ‘Dostana 2’ is the sequel to the film ‘Dostana’ (2008) which had John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles.

It should be stated here that Karan Johar had said in June that Kartik Aryan and Janhvi Kapoor will be two of the three main protagonists of ‘Dostana 2’. He had then said that the name of the second hero of the film will be announced soon. But so far it has not happened as top actors like Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor have backed out from the film the moment they have been informed that they will have to portray a character with homosexual tendencies.

Sources said that Hrithik Roshan has backed out because he wants to feature in films as the solo lead and play a normal hero. Shahid Kapoor on the other hand doesn’t want to play the role of an eye candy anymore. The producers of the film had also approached Rajkummar Rao. Even though he had not problems in portraying the character with gay tendencies, his price (allegedly Rs 13 crore) forced Karan Johar to back out.

The producers then approached Diljit Dosanjh. However, the actor refused the role stating that it would create a negative image in Punjab if he portrays such a role.

Karan Johar has also approached his one-time protégé Sidharth Malhotra. However, the actor is yet to revert to Karan Johar’s proposal. Hence the shooting of the film, which will mainly be done in India, has been delayed. The shooting was scheduled to begin in August but now has been postponed till the third lead of the film is finalised.
