SYDNEY: The rich cultural heritage of Odisha recently came alive in Sydney as the Nrityashree Odissi Dance Academy, founded and led by Debashree Das, presented its annual dance event dedicated to Indian classical dance and culture. The event, a celebration of Odissi, showcased the dedication, discipline, and passion of students who have been learning and practicing the art form under Das’ guidance. As the Founder and Creative Director of the academy, Debashree has been working passionately to promote Odissi in Australia and create opportunities for the next generation to connect with India’s rich cultural heritage. The evening featured a range of Odissi performances, allowing the audience to experience the grace, expressions, rhythmic movements, and storytelling that make this classical dance form unique. Guest performers from the Mayura Academy also presented Kuchipudi, adding another dimension to the celebration.
Speaking about the occasion, Debashree shared that seeing her students perform on stage after months of preparation was deeply rewarding. She expressed her gratitude to the students, parents, volunteers, sponsors, performers, guests, and everyone who contributed to making the event a success. T
