Bhubaneswar: A Tamil movie, dubbed in Hindi, released last week has projected Orissa’s director general of police (DGP) Kunwar Brajesh Singh as a martyr. Even as Singh took the matter in a lighter vein, a fuming Orissa Police Association (OPA) demanded an apology from the film’s producer and director.
In a scene from the Tamil film (Motta Siva Kotta Siva) which was dubbed in Hindi (ACP Shiva), the lead actor Raghava Lawrence stands against a wall where photographs of several upright police officers, who had presumably, laid down their lives for the country, are affixed. The photograph of Singh is among the martyrs on the wall.
Delivering a dialogue, Tamil actor Sathyaraj, who recently portrayed Kattappa’s character in blockbuster film ‘Baahubali’ has played the role of a police commissioner in the film. The official points his finger at each and every cop in the photographs, appreciates their contribution to the society.
Sathyaraj tries to instill a sense of commitment and honesty in the lead actor Raghava, a corrupt assistant commissioner of police.
Singh had laughed at the incident adding it is nice to be martyred for the country but he is alive. ‘‘I was shocked initially and then laughed. What can I do? Perhaps the film’s crew members were searching for police martyrs on Internet. By mistake they might have downloaded my photo. If possible, I will draw the attention of the film’s director and producer,’’ Singh said.
OPA, an elected body of police officers, is not happy over the incident. “It is a serious issue. The filmmaker made a mockery of the state’s police chief. Since the movie is dubbed in Hindi, a number of people will watch the movie in Orissa. We seek an apology from the movie makers,” said OPA president Satyajit Mishra.
“We have no problem with the movie’s plot. But the filmmaker should not have put the DGP’s photo among the martyrs,” said another OPA member.
