Kidney ailment grips Ganjam village as two more succumb

Patrapur: Two persons breathed their last after battling with kidney ailment at villages under Patrapur block in Ganjam district Friday.

They were Umakant Dalei of Haripur village under Samantrapur panchayat and Satyapriya Dakua of Jarada panchayat. Family members alleged the two had died due to lack of proper medical treatment after battling for many years.

Meanwhile, two more persons identified as Nayak Sahu (41) of Samantrapur village and Bauri Dakua of Jarada village, both kidney patients, are said to be battling for life.

According to reports, the disease has crippled many areas in panchayats like Jarada, Ambhapur, Samantrapur under Patrapur block. As many as 20 persons have lost their lives while many have been suffering from the disease in the last three years.

Seven persons have died and many are suffering from the disease in Ambhapur panchayat. Similarly, four persons have died while many are fighting the disease at Abhaypur village.

Though so many persons have died in the last few years, the administration seems to have no interest to take adequate steps to tackle the disease. The official apathy has outraged the locals who demand a medical team’s visit to the panchayats and probe the high incidence of kidney disease in that region.

“No officials and medical team have visited our villages and enquired about our health condition. Even after repeated pleas, no one pays heed,” complained the locals. Moreover, due to lack of awareness, locals have failed to admit the affected persons to a hospital for better treatment. Instead, they keep on taking the help of traditional sorcerers. As a result, their health condition deteriorates.     PNN
