Bhubaneswar: The Curtain Raiser and Vision Launch of the KIIT Centre for International Arbitration and Mediation (KCIAM) took place Saturday, drawing prominent judges, jurists, and legal experts from across the country.
The gathering lauded the initiative as a landmark step aimed at strengthening India’s position as a global hub for arbitration, promoting high standards of dispute resolution, and fostering international legal collaboration.
Speaking at the event, Justice Sandeep Mehta, Judge of the Supreme Court, called the establishment of KCIAM a “timely and visionary initiative”. He noted that it could act as a catalyst for change by offering world-class facilities, fostering collaboration, and training future arbitrators.
“KCIAM will not only serve this region but will contribute meaningfully to the larger vision of India as a global hub for arbitration and mediation,” he said.
Justice Abdulqawi A Yusuf of the International Court of Justice underscored that arbitration and mediation were deeply rooted in India’s history.
“This new centre will mark a new era of institutionalised arbitration in the country.
If it maintains the highest standards, KIIT’s initiative could stand alongside Singapore and Hong Kong,” he remarked. Echoing the sentiment, Pinky Anand, senior advocate and former Additional Solicitor General, said the centre reflects India’s aspirations as a fast-growing economy.
“It strengthens judicial infrastructure and signals India’s readiness to play a bigger role in global dispute resolution,” she noted.
The event also saw the launch of KCIAM’s logo and website, with KIIT and KISS founder Achyuta Samanta gracing the occasion.
