Balasore: A married woman’s siblings pierced her head with a nail and made an attempt to gouge her eyes out to draw blood as offering to a deity. The shocking incident was reported from Gopalprasad under Raibania police limits in Balasore district.
Sandhyarani Dalai, was rescued by her husband and villagers in a critical condition. It was alleged that the heinous act of sorcery was perpetrated by her family members. Sandhyarani’s father Gaya Prasad Dandapat was reportedly helped by his son’s mother-in-law Basanti Bera, wife Mani, and younger brother Parimal Dandapat.
According to reports, Sandhya had visited her father’s house Thursday night after a call from her brother Balaram Dandapat. When she entered the room where the rituals were being performed, family members locked her inside.
The rituals for sacrifice began in the presence of Balaram’s mother-in-law Basanti, wife Mani and younger brother Parimal inside the room. Later, they pierced Sandhya’s head with a nail and tried to hollow out one of her eyes to pour blood on a skull kept before the deity as part of offerings.
Hearing Sandhya’s screams, her husband Rabindra tried to force himself into the room, but was prevented by Gaya.
Then he rushed out and sought villagers’ help to rescue his wife. In the wee hours, she was rescued from the clutches of the black magic practitioners. She was bleeding from head and eyes. The victim was rushed to the Hatigarh CHC and subsequently shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
Sources said Basanti, who is from West Bengal, had goaded Dandapat’s family into taking up the gory ritual to become rich.
