KISS emerge rugby champions

Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: KISS managed a narrow 27-23 victory over Bangalore RFC in a nail-biting final to emerge champions of the All India Senior National Div-II Callaghan Cup Rugby 15s tournament, which concluded at the Kalinga Stadium here Friday. Alekha Murmu of the winning team scored from three tries. Rajendra Samad and Niranjan Biswal scored a try each.

In another game Bhubaneswar RFC thrashed Chhattisgarh 65-5 to finish third. Surendra Jena, Dhiren Kumar Rout, Shenbaz Ahmad, Subhram Narayan Mohanty and Vikrant Rout of Bhubaneswar scored double tries each. Birel Bisra, Sagar Marandi and Ranjan Kumar Sahu netted a try each.

In the plate group final, Bhubaneswar Bulls prevailed over Kashis RFC by 5-0 to take the top honours.

“The top four finishers KISS, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar and Chhattisgarh entered the Callaghan Cup Division-I tournament which will be played at Mumbai in September,” stated ORFA secretary Upendra Kumar Mohanty.
