Bhubaneswar, Sept 21: KISS entered the final of the Inter-School MCL Cup football tournament after registering a resounding 6-2 victory over Mother Public School (MPS) in the first semifinal at the Unit-VI Ground here Monday.
KISS players displayed some excellent soccer skills and scored at will during the game. Dilip Murmu (second, and 50th minutes) and Sun Marandi (18th and 58th minutes) struck a brace each, while Sunil Murmu (60th) and Dipak Kumar Baradi (24th) found the back of the net once.
After playing some aggressive football and dominating the game completely, KISS players became a bit complacent during the dying moments. As a result, Subham Mohanty and Anirban Pal scored once each to bring some consolation for MPS. Sun Marandi was adjudged the man of the match.
Such was the dominance of KISS that they will definitely start favourites in the final when they face the winners of the other semifinal between Sainik School and Vikash Residential School which will be played Wednesday.
JSJS triumph
JSJS Bhabani Club pipped United Brothers Football Club 1-0 in a Group-D match of the 12th Gati Krushna Memorial football league at the Unit-I Boys’ HS Ground here Monday. This was the second win for JSJS on the trot.
Ratanjeet Mohanty scored the all important goal of the match in the 23rd minute. United players tried their best but could not find the equaliser till the final whistle.
Orissa in Group B
Orissa have been placed in Group B along with Karnatak and Chandigarh in the National U-19 Junior Women’s Football Championship at Goa starting October 5. Under the watchful eyes of coaches Gitanjali Khuntia and Chitrasen Patra, a selection trial camp is going on at the Satyabrata Stadium here.
Footballer dies
Former Orissa footballer Seikh Nizamul Haq breathed his last here Monday. He was 62. He was a renowned player and represented Orissa in the Santosh Trophy. FAO members expressed their condolences over the sad demise of Nizam, as he was fondly called.
