Jeypore: Miscreants duped over Rs 3,00,000 from a farmer at Maliguda in Koraput district by informing him that he has won more than Rs 25 lakh in the popular television show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, a report said Monday.
The show is aired by ‘Sony Entertainment Television’ and hosted by the legendary Amitabh Bachhan. The victim was identified as Bhimasen Goud, 25.
The temptation of the prize money was so strong that Bhimasen Goud borrowed and even sold his wife’s ornaments to deposit the security deposit wanted by the miscreants in 20 accounts. Now he is heartbroken and has threatened to commit suicide unless he gets back the money.
According to reports, a man identifying himself as Rana Pratap Singh of Mumbai rang up Goud and informed him that he had won Rs 26.40 lakh in a KBC lottery, August 31. The caller identified himself as a bank manager and later as a KBC employee. He even forwarded his photo ID through ‘Whatsapp’ to Goud.
Later, Goud received a letter in which the sender informed him that he has to open an account with an initial deposit of Rs 3.15 lakh to receive the KBC prize money.
Without suspecting anything, Goud in installments of Rs 12,000, Rs 22,000, Rs 20,000 and some more deposited Rs 3.15 lakh in various bank accounts provided by the caller. However, when he was asked to deposit an extra Rs 70,000 he realised that he had been duped.
The number from which the caller rang him is now not functioning. Goud however, is yet to lodge a complaint with the police and instead is cursing his fate.
