Cuttack: Koustuv Dash and Yashita Rout of Khurda emerged champions in the Open and Girls’ categories of the Orissa State U-9 Chess Championships which concluded here Monday.
In the open category Koustuv took top honours with a total of six points. Stitaprangya Sahoo also of Khurda and Sriansh Das of Jajpur also finished with six points each. However, as Koustuv was declared the winner on the basis of a better tie-break score while Stitaprangya and Sriansh finished second and third respectively.
In the girls’ category Yashita finished with 6.5 points to finish at top. Palak Mohapatra of Cuttack stood second with six points, while Arushi Srichandan of Khurda finished third with 5.5 points.
Other prizes: (U-8 open) Ankita Sahoo, Louisa Mohapatra, Advika Das (U-7 open) Sradha Mishra, Anshita Patnaik, Sai Sampada Mohanty (U-6 open) Sandeepa Priyadarshini Sahoo, Pratyasha Jena (U-8 girls’) Asmita Ansuman, Tridev Tirthankar, Aditya Ranjan Das (U-7 girls’) Bivaya Panigrahi, Mahavir Patra, Shriyansh Dey (U-6) Ayushman Mohanty, Tanmaya Talin Behera.
Shooting Championship
The VIth State Shooting Championship will take place simultaneously at the Kalinga Stadium and Utkal Karate School in Bhubaneswar, August 17-20. Based on the performances in this tournament, shooters will be selected for the Pre-National and National Shooting Championships. International jury of the National Shooting Association, Amitav Chatterjee will officiate in the competition.
