Bhubaneswar: A Kyrgyz woman who was rescued by commissionerate police March 23 reportedly attempted suicide at a child rehabilitation centre here Monday.
The 31-year-old woman from Kyrgyzstan was rescued from a flat at 6th Avenue Apartment in Shree Vihar where a sex racket was busted. She is now residing at Ruchika helpline.
The social organisation’s officials said the woman was holding two blades in her hands and also put them in her mouth repeatedly. “Perhaps, she was trying to commit suicide,” they added.
However, the director of the social organisation Benudhar Senapati asserted that the woman is stable and has been responding to treatment.
“We are having some communication problem with her. When she fails to understand us, we then send her a translated message on her mobile phone,” he said. On being asked about the response of Kyrgyzstan embassy officials on the matter, Benudhar said they would come to Bhubaneswar within a week and take the woman with them.
“The woman’s tourist visa expires April 23 and the embassy officials will most likely come from New Delhi to Bhubaneswar April 3, and take her with them. We and the Bhubaneswar DCP are in constant touch with the embassy officials,” he added.
Sources said the woman has been asking for cigarettes and liquor at Ruchika.
“She is often becoming violent after being denied liquor or cigarettes,” they added. Twin city police commissioner Y B Khurania has said the Kyrgyz woman is free to go wherever she wants and that they are in constantly touch with Kyrgyzstan embassy in this matter.
The Kyrgyz woman had
reportedly landed in India February 25, and was staying in Kolkata, before Somesh Panda, the kingpin of the sex racket, brought her to Bhubaneswar March 22.
