Bolangir: A bonded labourer who had boarded a train without a ticket was critically injured after jumping off the train as he was afraid of being pulled up by the travelling ticket examiner (TTE) here Sunday.
Kahnu Daradmegha was admitted to the district headquarters hospital here in a critical condition.
Kahnu, hailing from Barhauda village in Bargarh district, had gone to Satnagar of Andhra Pradesh along with his wife Saraswati to work as bonded labourers five months back. They bought a ticket from Secunderabad to Titilagarh of Bolangir and set out for home aboard the Nagavali Express Saturday.
The TTE checked their tickets at Titilagarh station. However, they did not alight from the train at that place, and instead continued towards Bargarh. On the way, they saw the TTE again, when Kahnu panicked and jumped off the moving train at Saintala.
Locals rescued him and sent him to Bolangir district headquarters hospital in an ambulance. He was being treated in the surgery ward of the hospital.
Bolangir government railway police officer-in-charge Kamalnath Khalko recorded Kahnu’s statement, in which he said he had jumped off the train fearing that the TTE would pull him up as he did not have a ticket till Bargarh. PNN
