Berhampur: A labourer was killed while more than 17 others sustained critical injuries after a pick-up van ferrying them skidded off the road and fell into a roadside field near Patapur police limits in Ganjam district on the wee hours of Saturday.
The incident took place while the vehicle was carrying the labourers from Bhukudi village to Lanjipalli, their work place.
Locals came to the rescue of the injured and admitted them to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur where they are undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the Berhampur Sadar police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The vehicle was seized and a probe was launched into the incident.
