Rourkela: Many people who had parted with their land for the establishment of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) years ago are still waiting to get jobs in the plant while ineligible persons have managed to get employment in RSP by forging land pattas of the oustees, a report said.
“We have only been getting assurances over the years, but not jobs,” lamented Gujura Kishan of Laxmiposh village in Sundargarh district.
Gujura had lost 84 decimal of land during setting up of RSP. However, none of his family members got job in the plant even as he has been pleading with the staff of the ADM office over the years.
Ironically, another man from Sundargarh submitted a fake patta with the administrative department of the plant and was absorbed by the authorities in 1995, Gujura alleged.
The Kishan family lodged a complaint with Tangarpali police over the fraud following which the fake land loser was arrested and produced in court. After spending some years in jail, the man has again been reinstated in his job, Gujura claimed.
Protesting the injustice, the family including Gujura’s wife Gurubari, son Krushnachanra and two grandchildren staged a sit in on the verandah of the ADM office Monday. After sitting there for two hours, Gujura and his son got a call from ADM Manisha Banerjee. The duo narrated their ordeal before the ADM and pleaded with her to take up their case for a job in RSP.
Though the RSP authorities promised them job while acquiring their lands, it was not fulfilled, Gujura told the ADM. Besides, he alleged that no action is being taken against the people who managed to get jobs in the plant by furnishing forged land pattas. The father-son duo demanded immediate dismissal of fake land losers from jobs.
They wanted their land back if the authorities were not in a position to recruit a member of their family, it was learnt.
After giving a patient hearing to the plight of the family, Banerjee took four days’ time to look into the case. On getting her assurance, the family withdrew their protest.
They would launch a fresh agitation if they are denied justice, the family warned. PNN
