Life hit due to Congress bandh

Bolangir: Several shops and commercial establishments at Kantabanji town in this district remained closed Tuesday due to the 12-hour bandh call given by the Congress to protest against the death threat given to party MLA Santosh Singh Saluja.

The Congress demanded immediate arrest of the person who gave the death threat. The bandh which started at 6.00 am ended at 6.00 pm. However, vehicular traffic movement was not affected. Also, schools and other educational institutions remained open as Matric exams started on the day, officials informed.

“We are holding a peaceful demonstration demanding immediate arrest of the wrongdoer(s), who has given death threats to our MLA,” said a leader of Kantabanji Nagar Congress committee. Banners and posters threatening to kill Saluja surfaced at two prominent places in Kantabanji town Monday morning.

In those posters, unidentified person (s) threatened to kill Saluja within the next 15 days. While reacting on this issue, Saluja had said the threat was given for political reasons. He had urged the police to immediately arrest the person. Meanwhile, police have seized the banners and launched a detailed probe.
