Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will disburse the fifth instalment of Rs 5,000 to more than one crore beneficiaries under the Subhadra scheme August 28, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said Monday.
“We will release the financial assistance under the Subhadra scheme in Nayagarh on Raksha Bandhan (August 28),” Parida, who is in charge of the Women and Child Development Department, told reporters on the sidelines of a five-day training programme for the second batch of newly appointed Child Welfare Committee (CWC) members.
Eligible new applicants will receive all five instalments in one go August 28, she said.
The Subhadra scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bhubaneswar September 17, 2024.
It aims to provide eligible women aged 21 to 60 years with Rs 50,000 over five years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29.
Under the scheme, each beneficiary receives Rs 10,000 annually in two instalments of Rs 5,000 each — one on International Women’s Day on March 8 and the other on Raksha Bandhan.
Addressing the training programme, Parida said the state government was committed to ensuring a safe, secure and enabling environment for every child.
She stressed the need for coordinated and compassionate efforts by all stakeholders to safeguard the rights, dignity and well-being of children.
Urging the newly appointed CWC members to discharge their responsibilities with sensitivity, dedication and empathy, Parida said the “best interest of the child” should remain at the centre of every decision and intervention.
The deputy chief minister also interacted with the newly inducted CWC members and heard about their grassroots-level experiences, challenges and perspectives on issues concerning children.
A total of 58 CWC members from 27 districts will undergo training under the programme.
