Ganjam: Residents of Jarapadar village under Kainchapur panchayat and Ganjam police limits in this district have been accused of socially boycotting two families, prompting a police investigation.
According to a complaint filed a few days ago, villagers allegedly socially boycotted H Ramachandra Reddy and his wife, H Sabitri Reddy, over an unspecified dispute. The villagers also reportedly demanded a fine from Sabitri. Unable to pay, she lodged a complaint at the Ganjam police station and appealed for help.
Sabitri further alleged that her brother, S Ashanta, was also ostracised after the villagers found him speaking to his sister.

Police registered a case (300/25) and launched an investigation.
Officers reportedly visited the village Saturday during a community meeting, examined records and took photographs.
Inspector-in-Charge Sumitra Patra said the villagers were scheduled to hold a meeting October 3, but it was postponed due to low-pressure triggered heavy rain and storms.
