Bhubaneswar, August 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sunday predicted that the two cyclonic circulations hovering over the Bay of Bengal for the past three days will merge in the next 24 hours and convert into a low pressure area Tuesday.
One upper air cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal and another over west central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood are likely to merge in the next 24 hours over the sea and subsequently develop into a low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around August 11.
Weather experts here predicted that the low pressure area, if it forms over the northwest Bay of Bengal, would affect Orissa in terms of heavy rain. “The low pressure areas over that particular part of the sea will always affect the state. We think heavy rain will be in store for the state after Tuesday,” said Met department sources here Sunday.
The Met centre has predicted rain or thundershower to occur at one or two places over the state till August 11 which will intensify further later. The weathermen predicted heavy rainfall over southern Orissa in the next 24 hours.
However, rainfall over Orissa continued to remain disappointing with Met officials here tracing a mere 1.2 mm rain over Malkangiri in the past 24 hours. Many other places of the state remained dry during the period.
The weather over the capital city and adjoining areas may remain cloudy with minimal chances of rain or thundershower in the next 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures may remain around 34 and 26 degree Celsius over the city Monday.
