Bhubaneswar, August 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sunday revised its earlier prediction of a low-pressure area that they stated would be formed over the Bay of Bengal around August 24, now saying that it will develop around August 27.
“The upper air cyclonic circulation persisted over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to develop over North Bay of Bengal in the next two-three days,” stated the IMD bulletin.
Meanwhile, moderate rainfall lashed parts of state in the past 24 hours with the local Met centre here recording 28 mm rain over Sundargarh, 20 mm over Balasore, 14 mm over Jharsuguda and 10 mm over Angul. Other places also received light rain during the period.
In view of the upcoming system, meteorologists said the state will get moderate rain over the next 24-48 hours while rainfall will intensify around August 27. The rainfall will subside from August 29.
The erratic rainfall is a cause of concern for the state government as Orissa with nine districts still reeling under the impact of deficient rainfall as the state received 17 per cent less rain than normal this monsoon.
The skies over the capital and its adjoining areas are expected to remain cloudy and there might be rain or thundershower in the next 24 hours. The minimum and maximum temperatures may remain around 33 and 25 degree Celsius over the city Monday.
