Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here Tuesday said that the state will continue to experience heavy rains over the next 24 hours.
According to the evening bulletin of IMD issued Tuesday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Ganjam and Puri over the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nayagarh, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Cuttack during the corresponding period.
The low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha West Bengal coast along with the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 kilometres above mean sea level tilting southwestwards, the centre said.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Bikaner, Ajmer, Guna, Jabalpur, Pendra Road and Jharsuguda and turns southeastwards to the centre of low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Odisha – West Bengal coasts, the IMD report added.
Due to low pressure area over north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Odisha West Bengal coasts, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kilometres per hour are likely to prevail along Odisha coast, west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal. Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast, west-central and north-west Bay of Bengal coast during next 48 hours, IMD advised.
