Maharathy’s guard threatens shopper

Bhubaneswar, June 23: The personal security guard of agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy allegedly threatened a shopper at gun point at Unit 1 market Thursday and warned the man not to get into a confront with him.
Capital police did not identify the security guard and said no FIR was registered in the incident.
At 6 pm, a man called the Capital police station. “A man in civil dress is claiming to be a police officer and is pointing a gun at me. Please come and help us,” the caller told the diary in-charge officer.
The officer immediately asked a patrol team to reach the spot. The patrol team brought two men in a motorcycle along with the caller. One of these two was allegedly identified as the personal security guard of Maharathy.
“I was shopping when the guard parked his motorcycle in front of a fruit juice vendor’s shop. I supported the vendor who objected to the parking. All of sudden, he pulled out gun and pointed it at us,” said the caller on condition of anonymity as he feared that the man might take reventge.
“As I was calling 100, the guard said ‘I am the police. What will you do?’ He attempted to hit me with his helmet. By this time, the guard’s friend has also come. I was scared,” the complainant said.
Capital zone ACP AK Panda allegedly let off the guard.
