Bhadrak: Bhadrak is famous for its Bhadrakali Temple, which has now been all decked up due to the Durga Puja. Thousands are flocking to the temple to celebrate Mahaashtami.
Replete with an imposing statue of Goddess Durga and elaborate Sankirtan rituals, Durga Puja is celebrated in a distinctive style at Baudapur in Bhadrak district. The marked difference in the celebration rituals has lent a unique identity to this sleepy little coastal town.
This year, at least 20 pandals have come up in this city to mark Durga Puja. Like every year, the pandals have been decorated with colourful lights and arches.
Mahashtami is considered the most auspicious day of the Durga Puja. ‘Pushpanjali’ and ‘Sandhi puja’ are the two rituals that mark the day. Most of the pandals were overcrowded during ‘Pushpanjali’ in the morning. ‘Sandhi puja’ will occur a little later in the day.
Pandals have come up at Gandhifield, Bypass Road, Banakabasuli Temple, Charampa School Road, Januganj, Aradi Road, Station Road, old OSRTC campus, Charampa Dagarasahi, Gabasahi, Sangata, Old Market and Garadpur. People from far and near are flocking the pandals, posing in front of the idols for selfies. Overall there is festive gaiety everywhere.
The whole city is in a celebratory mood and it will continue on Mahanavami and Dashami, the last day of the Durga Puja. The celebrations will end with the burning of the effigy of Ravana.
