Bhubaneswar: The second edition of the Make in Odisha (MiO) Conclave witnessed investment intent of more than `4 lakh crore in 15 different segments of industries in the state, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said here Tuesday.
The Chief Minister told the media that the Make in Odisha 2018 found 183 investment proposals worth `4,19,574 crore across 15 diversified sectors which is slated to create 5,91,00 fresh jobs in the state. The second edition of the mega event saw responses from 5074 industry captains and delegates from India and aboard, he said.
The conclave got investment intent in chemical and fertilizer, petrochemical, food processing, healthcare, tourism, renewable energy and electronics segments.
The top five companies, who promised big-ticket investments here are Haladia Petrochemicals (Rs 70,000 cr), Jindal Steel & Power (Rs 60,950 cr), Mahanadi Coalfields (Rs58,997 cr), a company from Taiwan (Rs 43,000 crore) and Steel Authority of India (Rs 41,040 cr), industries secretary Sanjeev Chopra said while briefing the media.
The state received four Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) intents worth `46,650 crore during the event. A Japanese and a Thailand companies showed interest to invest in food processing sector, a Dutch company in infrastructure & logistics sector while a Taiwan firm evinced interest in chemical & petro chemicals sector, Chopra said.
The state received an investment proposal worth `1650 crore in aerospace and defence manufacturing sector, he added. “We have seen an overwhelming response from the industry to this conclave and thank you for reaffirming your faith in the state and its people. We are enthused with the participation of industry captains, young entrepreneurs, women entreprenueners, MSMEs from across various sectors,” he said while addressing the valedictory function of the conclave.
The CM told the gathering that the state had been focusing on empowering youths through skill development and that it had a plan to skill 11 lakh youths over a period of five years starting 2014.
“We have already trained 9,25,000 youths so far. It is a matter of immense satisfaction that Odisha has been adjudged as the best state in the country in the field of skill development by the Centre for two consecutive years.”
The Chief Minister also announced that the third edition of the MIO Conclave will be held from November 30 to December 4 in 2020.
