Malkangiri: Champa, the girl from Sagriguda village in Malkangiri district who had written to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking permission to end her life, has now a fresh ray hope. Champa has been suffering from an undiagnosed disease for the last 13 years. She is bedridden and has lost the use of her hands and legs.
However, as news of the girl seeking euthanasia surfaced, Malkangiri Collector Manish Agarwal has got into action. He sent a medical and block team for examining the girl after which she was admitted to the district hospital here Friday. Tests are being carried out to ascertain the cause of her disease. Agarwal has also said that if necessary, the girl will be shifted to the best possible hospital in Odisha for treatment.
Champa had contracted the disease in 2006 when she was studying in class VII. She used to get tingling sensations on her hands and legs with severe pain. Despite treatment the pain and sensation continued and within a couple of years, she became bedridden unable to move her hands and legs. Her family tried to get all possible medication for the sick child, but the disease could not be diagnosed.
On the contrary, Champa’s suffering grew by the day and finally she wrote a letter to Naveen seeking assistance for treatment failing which she be given the permission to end her life.
