Malkangiri: A 22-year-old man died by suicide in Malkangiri district Tuesday after a village ‘kangaroo court’ allegedly imposed a Rs 45,000 fine over his relationship with a married woman, his family alleged.
The deceased has been identified as Sagar Sarkar of MV-92 village. He had reportedly brought the woman to the village after the two allegedly developed a relationship while working in Andhra Pradesh.
According to Sarkar’s family, a village ‘kangaroo court’ was later convened to settle the matter. They alleged that Sarkar was assaulted during the meeting and ordered to pay Rs 45,000.
The family said Sarkar was under severe mental distress following the incident and later died by suicide Tuesday.
Police are investigating the death and alleged role of the ‘kangaroo court’ in the incident.
