Sambalpur: Demanding the scalp of Minister of State for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra, for his alleged nexus with the key accused Gobinda Sahu in school teacher Mamita Meher murder case, the district unit of BJP will observe a 12-hour Sambalpur bandh Tuesday (October 26).

“BJP also seeks CBI probe into the case. Sambalpur Bandh will begin at 6.00 AM and vehicular movement will not be allowed. However, the emergency services like ambulance, milk, water, medicines and fire brigade will not be disrupted during the bandh,” the party’s district unit president Girish Patel said in a press conference Sunday evening.

Besides, students going to schools, colleges and other educational institutions for admission related works or for appearing examinations will not be detained during the 12-hour bandh, Patel further said.

“BJP protests the rape and brutal murder of the lady teacher Mamita Meher. We appeal the people of Sambalpur to extend their support to the cause and make the bandh a grand success,” Patel added.

Workers of the party have accordingly been instructed to ensure that marketplaces, roadside shops, malls and commercial establishments including government and private organisations remain closed.

It is pertinent to mention, the civic life including vehicular movement was disrupted in several parts of Mayurbhanj as hundreds of BJP workers agitated during a 12-hour bandh in the district Monday.

Hundreds of workers chiefly from the party’s women wing picketed at Palabani Chhak on NH-49 in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj district. The agitators completely disrupted traffic movement on the route.

Many BJP supporters also staged dharna at Udala, Karanjia and Rairangpur areas of the district, a local leader of the party stated.

The bandh which started from 6.00 AM and continued till 6.00 PM was called by the party demanding fulfillment of a 16-point charter.

It included arrest of the main accused as he chased and attacked BJP and JMM supporters while staging protest and waving black flags at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during a recent visit to Baripada.
