Jharsuguda: Badamal police in Jharsuguda district Thursday arrested a man from Bengaluru for blackmailing a married woman to leave her family and get into a wedlock with him.
The accused has been identified as Soumyajit Sethy aka Deepu from Fatal village in Dhenkanal district. He was produced in the court Thursday.
According to police, Deepu and the woman, who hails from a village under Badmal police limits in Jharsuguda district, were friends on Facebook. Their friendship eventually turned into an affair and the woman – a mother of two – went on to share her private pictures with him.
Even though Deepu’s family was completely against an alliance with the said woman, the accused man pressurised her to marry him and blackmailed her by using the pictures she had sent.
The woman’s husband came to know of this incident after a while and lodged an FIR with Badamal police against Deepu. Acting on the FIR, the police tracked the man to Bengaluru and arrested him there. Further investigations into the matter are on, police said.
