Jajpur: A man was thrashed to death at Sahaspur village under Jajpur Sadar police limits in Jajpur district Sunday. A group of villagers allegedly attacked him over a land dispute.
The deceased has been identified as Prashant Kumar Jena.
According to source, there had been a long standing land dispute between Jena and some villagers. Two months ago, both the sides confronted each other over the same reason and the issue was resolved at the police station.
However, it seemed the villagers were not happy with the way the matter was settled. Their bottled up anger found an outlet Sunday morning when they found that Prashant was all alone.
He had gone outside to attend nature’s call, when the villagers ganged up against him and started beating him mercilessly.
On hearing about Prashant getting thrashed, his family members rushed to his rescue. They immediately took him to Jajpur district headquarters hospital. But it was too late. The doctors declared him received dead.
On being informed, the police recovered the body for post mortem and launched an investigation.
A tense atmosphere has been prevailing in the village ever since the news of Prashant’s death reached the village.
