Puri: A man was beaten to death by a group of armed miscreants at Harachandi Sahi here in Puri district. He was identified as Maheswar Martha (32).
While the incident occurred Thursday night, police seized the body Friday morning and sent it for post-mortem. A scientific team and sniffer dogs were pressed into service to probe the killing.
Police seized a wooden plank and blood-stained clothes from the spot. Acting on a complaint by the deceased’s father, police registered a case and detained a youth.
According to sources, Maheswar worked as a mason and preliminary investigation indicated the murder was fallout of previous enmity.
“We have detained a youth on suspicion and interrogating him. Further information will be known after the interrogation,” Baliapanda IIC Debasish Mishra said.
