Deogarh: Police Friday arrested a youth on the charges of beating his mother to death with a stick at Haridanali village under Barkot police limits in this district. The accused was identified as Suresh Pradhan (28). The victim was identified as Anasi Pradhan.
A case was registered and Suresh was produced in court. He was later remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea, sources said. Meanwhile, Suresh’s elderly father Cheru Pradhan who also reportedly was a victim of Suresh’s atrocities is undergoing treatment at the local hospital.
According to the case diary, the incident occurred four days back. Suresh was in a relationship with his cousin. Later, the duo eloped after their families vehemently opposed their relationship.
On the fateful night, he returned home and insisted his parents to accept them. However, his parents declined to accept his cousin as their daughter-in-law. Enraged, Suresh reportedly attacked his mother with a stick leading to her death on the spot. Meanwhile, Cheru in a bid to save Anasi also sustained grievous injuries.
Police on a tip-off arrived at the spot and arrested the accused. PNN
