Khurda: A 53-year-old man died Sunday when a mini marathon organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs department at Kamaguru panchayat under Tangi block was underway.
However, the victim’s wife Basanti claimed that he did not participate in the marathon. “He was going somewhere on Arisal-Kamaguru road when the marathon was underway. He collapsed on the road,” Basanti said.
The marathon was held to promote the upcoming Men’s Hockey World Cup being organised in Bhubaneswar.
The deceased has been identified as Krushna Chandra Parida of Belapada Adivasi Sahi. According to sources, Parida collapsed during the mini marathon and was rushed to Khurda district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Jankia police seized the body and sent it for a post-mortem after registering an unnatural death case in this regard.
