Kendrapada: A fast-track court in Odisha’s Kendrapada district Thursday sentenced a 21-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a teenage girl.
Special Judge Tribikram Keshari Chinara convicted the accused under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and relevant sections of the BNS.
The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the survivor.
According to the prosecution, the 17-year-old girl’s mother lodged an FIR alleging that the accused sexually assaulted her minor daughter July 27, 2025, when she was alone at home.
Police arrested the accused following the complaint and filed a chargesheet after completing the investigation.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 15 witnesses, including the survivor. Based on their testimonies and medical evidence, the court found the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence, special public prosecutor Samar Keshari Mohapatra said.
