Khurda, June 19: A local court here Friday sentenced a man to four years’ imprisonment in a two-year-old case of rape at Anantapalli area in Begunia police limits of the district.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on the accused, who has been identified as 24-year-old Nalu alias Pratap Chotaray. The convict will have to serve an additional jail term of one year in case of non-payment of the penalty, additional district judge (second class) Amiya Kumar Sahu said. The accused had February 27, 2013, barged into the house of the 20-year-old victim when she was alone at home and raped her. However, the victim then managed to lock the accused in a room and inform her family members who had gone to attend a marriage.
On reaching home, the girl’s father informed the other villagers about the matter. The residents of the village then nabbed the accused and handed him over to police.
